A 63-year-old Nigerian woman living in Texas, Ada Ngozi Otuka, has pleaded guilty to illegally voting in five federal elections in the United States despite not being a US citizen.
Otuka, who resides in Katy, Texas, admitted that she falsely represented herself as a US citizen in order to register and vote in federal elections.
According to the case, she cast ballots in the 2012, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2024 elections, even though she was not legally eligible to participate in US federal elections.
The offence came to light after authorities investigated her voting records and citizenship status.
Otuka’s guilty plea means she has admitted to both unlawfully voting in federal elections and falsely claiming US citizenship.
She faces a potential fine of up to $250,000 and a prison sentence, with sentencing scheduled for November 5, 2026.
